About Pride in Place

Pride in Place is a 10-year investment programme that puts local people at the heart of shaping the future of their neighbourhoods.

Through the programme, four areas of Newcastle have each been allocated up to £20 million of government funding to support community-led regeneration, helping residents, businesses and organisations work together to create thriving places where people are proud to live, work and visit.

The programme focuses on improving neighbourhoods, strengthening communities and creating opportunities that make a lasting difference to local people.

Our Pride in Place Areas
Newcastle's Pride in Place programme covers four neighbourhoods:
  • Elswick South
  • Fawdon South
  • Throckley, Newburn and Walbottle
  • Walker North
Each area has its own Neighbourhood Board, made up of local residents, businesses, community organisations and partners, who help shape local priorities and oversee the development of a long-term Neighbourhood Plan.

A Community-Led Approach
Pride in Place is built around local leadership. Communities are supported to identify what matters most to them and to develop ideas and projects that will have a lasting impact.
Projects may focus on things such as:
  • Improving public spaces and community facilities
  • Supporting local groups and community activity
  • Strengthening local pride and identity
  • Creating opportunities for skills, employment and enterprise
  • Improving access to services and activities
  • Celebrating culture, heritage and local assets
